It is my pleasure to welcome you to our website. Over the past four decades I, and later FASTcc, have been involved in developing, designing and commercializing hydrofoil technology through collaboration and partnership. The research project started in the University of Stellenbosch and continued upon my retirement as as lecturer when I founded FASTcc. Today we are proud to have developed close collaboration ties with key partners around the world and are able to provide effective, high-quality and industry-leading designs for Hysucraft technology applications.
Throughout the years, we have developed various mathematical models that enable us to provide services and analytical estimates that are critical in the success of any hydrofoil project. We are proud of our teams of collaborators and partners that together with our gained expertise as well as their skills and specific industry expertise can offer products, designs and applications that will match your expectations. Please explore our website, read about the technology and how it was used in the past and please reach out to us if you have any specific questions.
To see what services we offer, please visit our “What We Do” page so that you can understand our collaboration and distribution model better. For an overview of the HysucraftTM technology, please visit the Technology page. Taking a very complex engineering task and providing a service to help our partners and collaborators isn’t something that should be taken lightly, it look many years to develop complex software systems that enable FASTcc and our partners to accurately calculate all aspects of the HysucraftTM design and systems, please read about the software on our “Proprietary Software” page so that you can understand our competitive advantage and value offering. You will find various other pages on the site that gives indications of the types of platforms we can help you with as well as some of our past projects.
We hope that you enjoy your time on our site, if you have any comments, queries or feedback about anything, please contact us from the Contact Us page.
Prof.-Dr. K-G.W. Hoppe
A brief history of Prof.-Dr. K-G.W. Hoppe
Prof. Dr.-Ing. K.G.W. Hoppe is a Registered Professional Engineer and studied Naval Architecture at the Technical University in Berlin, Germany (TU-Berlin). While being a lecturer in Marine Engineering at the University of Stellenbosch, he developed and patented the “Hysucat” and “Hysuwac” as a result of various research projects conducted in Germany and South Africa over the past four decades.
Prof. Hoppe developed the theoretical background needed for foil assisted craft and designed research facilities (Towing tank, Circulating tank, Cavitation tank) to be used in conjunction with teaching which allowed the backup of theoretical results by ship model tests. Many towing tank test series in research and for design applications gave valuable backfeed data for the practical designs of the more than 300 Hysucats on the sea from 1982 to 2002 which have shown up with speed improvements of over 40% in many cases.
Prof. Hoppe retired early from academical duties at the University in mid 1999 in order to invest all his available time and effort into further development of foil assisted ships and to conduct practical design applications for the international maritime industry through FASTcc.
His long standing experience in the field of fast ship design, propeller design development and computerization, model and prototype testing and teaching in these subjects form the right ingredients for top class product development.
To achieve an optimum combination of a foil system and hull shape (Hysucat hybrid) Prof. Hoppe also designed specialized demi-hull shapes which included the propulsion system (hull lines drawing, foil detail design, propulsion system!) and fast yachts, patrol boats and ferries were designed for S.A., Germany, USA, Thailand, U.K., France, Australia etc.
